We didn’t choose this house — it found us.
Catia has a deep connection with this town and its community; buying this house was love at first sight — the most natural way to put down roots in a place that already felt like home.
The building, purchased in 1937 by the grandfather of the previous owner, features on its façade a precious stone Madonna by Lombard sculptor Giovanni Antonio Pilacorte, dating back to the 15th century. Having survived earthquakes, fires, and the 1976 quake, the house now stands as a remarkable symbol of resilience and love for the past.
Overlooking the Cecconaia — an ancient cobbled street that once linked the Castle Gate to the Saccavan hamlet — the house sits in one of the most authentic and evocative areas of Fagagna’s historic centre.

“Cecconaia is not just a holiday home: it’s a dream taking shape through stone, memory, and affection.
I come from a family of building artisans, and since I was a child, I’ve nurtured a love for old houses.”
“For years, I had dreamt of restoring a stone house in Fagagna — the village that welcomed my family and where we’re actively part of the community.
One day, my husband and I noticed this house: it was up for sale.
The moment I stepped through the gate and saw the inner courtyard, the old fig tree and even the former pigsties… I knew my heart had found its home.”
“Together with a childhood friend — also a builder — we chose to bring it back to life with care and respect.
Today, thanks to the support of my family, Cecconaia has been reborn.
And now, we’re happy to share it with those who know how to appreciate things made with heart.”
Rooted in the heart of the village
The name of the street itself is rooted in history: “l’Arra delli Consorti Ceconi verso la matina” — a strip of land facing east, towards the rising sun.
This is where the Ceconi family once lived — master Ceconus, Zeconi Simone — names that, since the 15th century, have woven their story into that of the village.
And today, in respect of that memory, this house is born again.
We chose not to reinvent, but to restore what was already there.
Original wooden beams, exposed walls, faithful proportions — every choice was guided by the desire to preserve the soul of the house.
Here, you can feel the history of Friuli’s fortified villages, when Fagagna’s walls offered shelter to nearby villagers, in a spirit of community that still lives on in these places.
